ACTED in DRC
The Watsan project implemented by ACTED in Baraka (in the Province of Southern Kivu) with the support of the Pooled Fund ended in November 2008. 10,000 people benefitted from this programme which lead to the construction on of 12 wells, 195 family latrines and 2 blocks of public latrines. A ceremony marked the handover of those to the local authorities. This project notably contributed to preventing the spread of cholera, a rampant disease in the suburban neighborhoods of Baraka bordering the Tanganyika lake, by improving access to clean water and to health adapted latrines.
